He is a professor, and the director of the Institute of Experimental Pathology at the University of Münster, as well as an internationally renowned molecular genetic and evolutionary biologist. In 1977, he graduated from the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics. From 1977 to 1982, he studied at the University of California and Harvard University. In 1982, he established his own experimental team. In 1994, he was a professor at the University of Münster in Germany. He has outstanding contributions in the following scientific fields: genetic sequencing of the first ribosomal RNA operator, plasmid design of gene expression, high expression of recombinant proteins and RNA, RNA biology, RNA omics, transposon elements, life origin and evolution, etc. At present, he has published more than 300 articles in related fields, cited nearly 20,000 times, and the h index reaches 73.
